Lego Batwing Lighted Wall Mount
Posted by Chris Carpenter on

When I saw the new Lego Batwing kit the iconic 80’s scene of the batwing flying in front of the moon came to mind. I knew I was going to purchase it and it was going on a wall. The only question was how to recreate the scene. I figure lighted acrylics were the easiest way. The next problem was how light an area big enough for the whole batwing. Edge lit acrylics work by reflecting light from the engraved portions of the acrylic. You can wrap an LED strip around the sheet and have it illuminate whatever has been...
Acrylic Sneeze Guards for NASA
Posted by Chris Carpenter on

I was recently contacted by NASA at Wallops Island VA to build some acrylic sneeze guards for their launch control room. They have an upcoming launch and to minimize the chance of COVID-19 inflection, NASA wants to install sneeze guards between each of the control room stations. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak and the volume of businesses that are installing acrylic protective barriers, acrylic sheets have become harder to obtain. So, I decided to gen up something to uniquely display the photos. I’m etching the photos onto 1/8” thick acrylic. I just started using Lightburn software and I have to say its a HUGE upgrade over RDWorks. The software makes converting images into a laser engravable format a breeze....

Club Quarantine Party Lights
Posted by Chris Carpenter on

My wife has been really digging the @dnice Club Quarantine dance party. It's been a really nice break while we stay at home. To help her get in the vibe a little more, I whipped up a sign. I cut it out of 1/8" acrylic and put on a portable battery operated stand. Perfect to setup any place in the house while she gets her groove on!
