Han Solo -My First Cosplay
Posted by Chris Carpenter on
If you read anything on my blog it should be obvious I love Star Wars. More specifically, I love the Millennium Falcon and its scruffy pilot Han Solo. I've wanted to have a Han Solo outfit since I was a little kid. I recently made a DL-44 blaster and that got me thinking, why not a Solo outfit. When my son reminded me Blerdcon was in a couple of weeks that's all the motivation I needed. I mean, how hard can it be to make a costume??? Yeah.... So, this blog post is going to be less of a how...

Lego Millennium Falcon Landing Pad
Posted by Chris Carpenter on
After getting the Lego Millennium Falcon table built, I decided to build a landing pad. Most people go for Docking Bay 327 from the Death Star. I decided to go with my favorite Star Wars backdrop, Bespin. The scene where the falcon flies through the clouds to the landing pad at sunset has always been a favorite. Millennium Falcon Electronics Update
Posted by Chris Carpenter on
My original plan was to put to lights and sounds in the Lego Falcon. However, I got sidetracked. I started working on the 29" Hasbro Rebels Falcon conversion. I finished up the CircuitPython code and it works well. The electronics will go in the Hasbro Falcon first but a similar setup will also go in the Lego Falcon. The completed code currently has engine lights only because there really isn't a good place on the Hasbro Falcon to put gun lights. The script has engine start, guns firing, hyperdrive, flyby and hyperdrive failure sounds. I saw one of the commercial...

Wood and Monogram Resin Cutting Boards
Posted by Chris Carpenter on
Mother's day just passed and this year I decided to give my Moms something besides flowers. I've been having fun with resin and decided to try to engrave some wood cutting boards and do a resin inlay. I setup the design in Aspire and started with some fancy capital letters to v-carve. The designs carved in the wood pretty easy. Next up I went to fill with resin. I chose Alumilite Amazing Clear Cast resin over my normal Alumilite Slow. It's not a very big pour but Alumilite slow cures fast and bubbles are hard to manage without a pressure...
